The origin of STRIPES is remarkably quiet. In a studio in Dresden, Christian Manss watched red and blue paint run downward along an edge, gradually forming luminous bands. That fleeting image became the starting point for this shirt. STRIPES carries that exact tension: calm structure on the one hand, flowing motion on the other. It turns a simple visual moment into something wearable, graphic and self-assured.

At first glance, STRIPES reads like a striped long sleeve shirt. Look closer and it moves far beyond convention. The bright base creates clarity, while slim vertical lines in blue, red, turquoise and violet tones generate rhythm. A vivid red-orange collar area and strong blue inner cuffs sharpen the look even more. The result is a shirt with presence, but not stiffness. It works with denim, light chinos, navy trousers or a relaxed jacket, which makes it an easy choice for travel, dinner, creative work settings or any occasion where a standard shirt feels too predictable.

Not a standard patterned shirt

STRIPES is not based on generic repeat fabric, and it is definitely not a simple scaled-up or scaled-down allover print. That is one of the central differences between GERMENS and ordinary patterned menswear. The print data is adapted for every size individually, so the artwork is aligned with the proportions of the garment instead of being enlarged mechanically. The shirt is built from 21 separate parts, and the design is positioned precisely across them. That is why the composition feels balanced in every size from XS to 6XL. What you get is not just a patterned button-up shirt long sleeve men can wear casually, but a coherent wearable artwork.

The fabric is 100% cotton, made in Saxony. In practical terms, that means a natural feel, skin-friendly comfort, breathability, odor neutrality and the kind of everyday durability that matters over time. STRIPES wears comfortably through long days, yet still keeps the visual sharpness expected from an art-driven shirt. Because GERMENS does not produce unnecessary mass inventory, the shirt also reflects a more thoughtful way of making clothing: less excess, more intention.

Construction and details

This is where the shirt becomes even more convincing. STRIPES includes the characteristic GERMENS collar notch, angled cuffs, sturdy buttons sewn on with a shank, and a Kent collar with removable stainless-steel collar stays for structure and stability. The edge stitching is set very tightly, giving the shirt a clean, precise finish. Each printed part is cut by hand, so lines and color transitions land exactly where they should.

If this is your first GERMENS purchase, it makes sense to start with the try-on service for home. It is essentially free, with only a small deposit that is refunded or credited later. That removes much of the sizing uncertainty and makes the first order far easier.

The fit range runs from XS to 6XL, which makes this long sleeve shirt accessible well beyond standard sizing. And if the fit needs refining after purchase, the alteration service can shorten sleeves, adjust the waist, add back darts or shorten the hem. That greatly lowers the risk of buying a distinctive shirt online, because a very good fit can still be improved into a highly personal one.

Care and longevity

To keep STRIPES crisp and vibrant, wash it at 30°C with color detergent without bleach. A small amount of fabric softener is possible. Do not tumble dry. After washing, the shirt can be ironed hot, and an ironing mannequin also works well. Full care guidance is available under care instructions.

GERMENS only uses its own designs, which are only available here. For each garment – in every size from XS to 6XL – the pattern pieces are printed individually and accurately on high-quality cotton fabric.

The fabric is then finished so that the colors remain permanently brilliant, the fabric is washable, suitable for everyday use and comfortable to wear – without any unpleasant odors.

GERMENS only produces what has actually been ordered. This is very sustainable and ensures lasting value. After printing, the fabrics are cut – traditionally by hand. The skilled worker is visually guided by the design and cuts each piece individually. The result is a perfect fit in which art and cut interact perfectly.

After cutting, the many individual pieces are sewn together in a Polish family business with great care and many years of experience. High-quality finishing details – such as finely stitched edges or buttons with handles – and fine fabrics guarantee that every GERMENS garment will give you long-lasting pleasure.
