Strong shortening for a clearly changed length

The 10 cm hem shortening is a strong length alteration for Long sleeve Button-up shirts, blouses and T-shirts. It is suitable when the garment is clearly too long and the proportions between upper body and legs look visibly unbalanced.

With this alteration, the hem is shortened evenly at the front and back. The lower edge is cut off and then sewn again. This creates a significantly shorter overall length.

For people with a shorter body height

Especially for people with a shorter body height, a regular-length Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse may reach too far down. This can make the upper body look longer and the legs appear shorter. A 10 cm shortening can help create clearer and more balanced proportions.

For shirts, the middle of the back pocket of a pair of trousers can be used as a rough guide. Because 10 cm is a strong shortening, it should be checked very carefully whether the new length still looks harmonious and wearable.

Pin carefully and step back

Before a 10 cm shortening, the garment should definitely be pinned evenly all around. Afterwards, step back and check the proportions in the mirror. The length should not only look right in detail, but also in the overall appearance.
