Sleeve expansion for women’s blouses

More width around the upper arm

With some women’s blouses, the fit at the shoulders, chest, waist and length is very good, but the sleeve feels slightly too tight around the upper arm. This can be uncomfortable when moving, bending or lifting the arms. In this case, a sleeve expansion or upper arm expansion can be a useful alteration.

This alteration is specifically intended for women’s blouses. It expands the sleeve in the upper arm area and creates more freedom of movement. Especially when the upper arm needs a little more room, but the blouse otherwise fits well, this adjustment can be a good solution.

How the sleeve expansion is made

For the sleeve expansion, a narrow fabric strip is inserted into the sleeve starting from the underarm area. This fabric strip runs approximately down to the bend of the arm. In addition, a triangular expansion is inserted in the underarm area. This creates more width around the underarm and upper arm.

The inserted fabric strip on the inside of the sleeve matches the design of the respective blouse. This means the expansion visually fits the product and is almost invisible.

Who is this alteration suitable for?

The sleeve expansion is suitable for women whose blouse generally fits well, but whose sleeve is too narrow around the upper arm. If the shoulders, chest and back fit correctly, the expansion can significantly improve wearing comfort.

Important: The sleeve expansion creates a little more width around the upper arm, but it does not replace a larger size. If the blouse is too tight overall or already pulls strongly at the chest, back or shoulders, a different size should be selected.

Test first with fitting blouses

The best way to check the right blouse size is with the GERMENS try-on service. First, it can be tested whether the shoulders, chest, waist and length fit well. If only the sleeve around the upper arm is too tight, a sleeve expansion can be useful.

When trying on the blouse, it should be checked how it feels while standing, sitting and moving the arms. Movements to the front, to the side and when bending the arm are especially important. If the sleeve pulls during these movements, the sleeve expansion can create more comfort.

Consider cotton shrinkage

For GERMENS women’s blouses made from cotton, natural shrinkage during washing should be considered. Cotton may change slightly after the first washes. With GERMENS cotton fabrics, this normal shrinkage can be around 2 to 3 %.

For this reason, it can be sensible to judge the final fit after the first washes. If you are unsure, an individual alteration can also be carried out later through the GERMENS alteration service.
