Closer shape for men’s Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses

The 3 cm waist reduction is a clearly noticeable alteration for Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses when the upper part fits well, but the waist area feels too loose. Especially with a men’s Long sleeve Button-up shirt or a women’s blouse, this adjustment can create a much more balanced silhouette.

GERMENS Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses have a regular, everyday-friendly waist shape. For slim people or for body shapes with a more athletic shoulder area, the cut can still feel too wide in the lower part. A 3 cm reduction can be the right solution without making the shoulders and chest unnecessarily tight.

How is the waist width reduced?

The side seam is opened manually on both sides from the hem up towards the underarm. A narrow strip of fabric is then removed on each side. Afterwards, the side seams are closed again precisely. The effect is mainly visible at the waist and hem: the Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse looks slimmer and sits closer to the body.

The chest area changes only slightly because the new side line fades out softly towards the top. This makes the alteration especially suitable when the size already fits correctly at the shoulders and chest.

Check first: do not pin too tightly

A waist reduction should improve the shape, but not restrict movement. When pinning, always check whether you can sit comfortably, turn your body and move your arms. The button placket should remain straight and should not pull.

The safest way to determine the desired reduction is with the GERMENS home try-on service. The side width can be marked with pins on the fitting shirt or fitting blouse. An alterations tailor or someone with sewing experience can also help with this.

Cotton and the timing of the alteration

The waist reduction can be ordered immediately or carried out later after the first washes. Cotton is a natural fibre and may relax slightly during washing. With GERMENS cotton fabrics, a shrinkage of around 2 to 3 % is possible. A later alteration can therefore be useful when the fit should be especially precise.
