I I’m René König — and before GERMENS existed, there was my work as a designer. I’ve been self-employed since 1992: as a graphic designer, museum designer, and developer of visual concepts. Over the years, I learned how to make content visible — not just “beautiful,” but with meaning, tension, and a clear impact. That exact mindset is the origin of GERMENS: design as an attitude, not as decoration.

GERMENS artfashion was founded in 2010 by René König together with the well-known artist Gregor-T. Kozik. The idea: to create shirts that feel different from the usual—true wearable art. Creativity and artistic skill are at the heart of our fabric design. Early on, we invited external artists to paint designs that serve as the visual basis for our textiles. This is how distinctive, richly detailed surfaces come to life—clothing with a strong, individual presence that shows personality and makes its wearer stand out.
What sets us apart from the typical fashion business is the concept. We don’t think in fast seasonal cycles, but in artistic signature, impact, and value. A GERMENS design is not meant to be a “trend,” but a character piece: something you don’t replace because it’s replaceable, but keep because it fits you. That’s why we consciously focus on individual production and small editions instead of overproduction. Not quantity—meaning.

About GERMENS artfashion – Art and fashion in perfection
Tradition and Craftsmanship
Our products are created in a textile printing workshop in Saxony that can look back on more than 130 years of tradition. Here, the high-quality cotton fabric is printed and refined with the greatest care. The garments are then made up in a manufacturing atelier in Poland, a family-run business for almost 50 years. Only a few companies in Europe have mastered the art of elaborate shirt tailoring with this level of precision and attention to detail.
Sustainability and Flexibility – Our Production Principle
What sets GERMENS apart from many other brands is our innovative production principle. Instead of relying on mass production, we only make the garments a customer actually needs— in the right size, with the desired design. This way, we avoid waste and overproduction and actively help reduce the squandering of resources. Each product is made specifically to order, so only what is truly needed is produced.
