The Boxer Axel Schulz – A German Heavyweight Legend
Axel Schulz, born on November 9, 1968, in Bad Saarow, is one of the most well-known German heavyweight boxers of the 1990s. He began his professional career in 1990 and fought for 16 years, recording 33 bouts – 26 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw.
He gained international recognition with his legendary bout against George Foreman on April 22, 1995. Schulz narrowly lost by a controversial decision, which sparked global debate. Further title fights against Francois Botha and Michael Moorer followed, but a world championship title remained just out of reach.
Despite this, Axel Schulz became a fan favorite in Germany thanks to his charm, determination, and authentic personality.

Axel Schulz in GERMENS Shirts
We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Axel Schulz several times at events like the GRK Golf Charity Masters and the "Chemmy" awards in Chemnitz. At these appearances, Axel wore GERMENS shirts – including the designs “Lava” and “Viadukt Chemnitz”.
His choice of these artist-designed, eye-catching shirts reflects his personal sense of style and appreciation for uniqueness. GERMENS stands for wearable art – and Axel Schulz wears it with confidence.
Axel Schulz – Commitment to charitable causes
Beyond his sports career, Axel Schulz is deeply involved in charitable work. He is an ambassador for the Bärenherz Children’s Hospice in Leipzig, where he regularly supports events and offers encouragement to families in difficult times.
He also lends his voice and support to the Ernst Prost Foundation, which helps people in need, and to the Stiftung KinderHerz, dedicated to helping children with heart conditions.
Axel Schulz shows true heart – both in and out of the ring.
A Planned Anniversary Event at the GERMENS Store
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Axel Schulz’s unforgettable fight against George Foreman, we planned a special event at the GERMENS store. For this occasion, we had an exclusive drawing made and designed a limited shirt collection to honor this historic moment in boxing history.
One of the highlights of this collection is the GERMENS long-sleeved shirt FOREMAN VS SCHULZ – a wearable tribute to the legendary 1995 bout that captivated millions.
Unfortunately, the event had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the idea remains alive – a heartfelt tribute to a great athlete and a moment that continues to inspire boxing fans around the world.
What Axel Schulz Does Today – “Axel Grills”
After retiring from boxing, Axel Schulz discovered a new passion: grilling. Under the name “Axel grillt”, he offers BBQ events for companies and private clients – combining great food with his trademark humor and charisma.
Whether as a boxing icon, GERMENS shirt wearer, or entertainer at the grill – Axel Schulz remains a true original who continues to inspire.
