A sleeve shortening by 10 cm is a strong alteration and should be selected when the sleeves of a shirt or blouse are significantly too long. Especially with men’s shirts, eye-catching button-up shirts, cotton shirts and long sleeve blouses, a harmonious sleeve length is important for a refined overall appearance.

The right shirt size is not determined by sleeve length alone. Chest width, shoulders, waist and freedom of movement also play an important role. This is why a garment can fit well around the body even though the sleeves need to be shortened.

When should 10 cm be selected?

A shortening by 10 cm is suitable when the cuffs extend far beyond the desired position. Please measure and check carefully, because such a clear alteration changes the sleeve length permanently. When the arm hangs naturally down, the cuff should reach approximately to the middle of the back of the hand.

If in doubt, a sleeve may be slightly too long rather than too short. Sleeves that are too short can quickly look tight and may feel uncomfortable when you move.

Skilled and time-consuming cuff alteration

We carefully detach the cuffs, shorten both sleeves by 10 cm and then sew the cuffs back on cleanly. This alteration takes around 45 minutes per shirt and is carried out so that the change is not visible from the outside.

With some GERMENS shirts, folding the cuff back can be an alternative. The effect is reminiscent of a double cuff and can look especially good when the cuff has a contrasting colour or pattern on the inside.
