Side slit 5 cm for women’s blouses

Subtle opening for more freedom of movement

The 5 cm side slit is a subtle alteration for women’s blouses. It is suitable when the blouse generally fits well, but needs a little more freedom of movement around the lower hem and hip area. Especially with a feminine, slightly more pronounced hip shape, a small side slit can be comfortable because the blouse falls more easily when sitting, walking and moving.

A 5 cm side slit changes the blouse only discreetly. The look remains very close to the original shape, while the lower area feels a little lighter and less closed. This option is ideal when only a small adjustment is desired.

How the side slit is made

For this alteration, the side seam is opened at the lower hem. The slit is worked approximately 5 cm upwards. The area is then carefully trimmed, and both opened edges are finished with a clean hem. This creates a side slit with a slightly triangular shape.

The side slit is positioned in the lower part of the blouse. It creates a little more ease in this area without significantly changing the fit at the chest, shoulders or waist. The blouse therefore keeps its basic shape.

Who is a 5 cm side slit suitable for?

The 5 cm side slit is especially suitable when the women’s blouse fits well at the top and only needs minimal extra ease at the bottom. It can help the blouse fall more comfortably over the hips and feel more pleasant to wear.

This alteration is not a replacement for a larger size. If the blouse is too tight overall or pulls at the chest, back or stomach, a different size should be selected. The side slit is useful when the basic size is correct and only the lower blouse area needs a little more movement.

Check first with fitting blouses

The best way to assess this alteration is with fitting blouses through the GERMENS try-on service. First, you can check whether shoulders, chest, waist and length fit well. If the blouse only feels a little too closed at the bottom, a 5 cm side slit can be the right solution.

When trying on the blouse, the desired slit height should be marked at the side. Afterwards, it is recommended to view the blouse in the mirror from a little distance. This makes it easier to judge whether the proportions and the fall of the blouse look harmonious.

Consider cotton and fit

GERMENS women’s blouses are made from cotton. Cotton may shrink slightly after the first washes. With GERMENS cotton fabrics, this normal shrinkage can be around 2 to 3 %. For this reason, the final fit should not be judged too tightly.
