Subtle expansion around the stomach and hem

The 1 cm waist expansion per side is a very subtle alteration for Long sleeve Button-up shirts, blouses and T-shirts. It is suitable when the garment fits well at the shoulders, sleeves and chest, but feels slightly too tight around the stomach, waist or hem.

The selected measurement applies to each side of the garment. With a 1 cm expansion per side, a narrow fabric strip is inserted on the right and on the left. This creates approximately 2 cm more total circumference in the lower area.

How the expansion is made

For this alteration, the side seam is opened by hand. A narrow fabric strip is then inserted from the hem up towards the underarm area. The fabric strip matches the design of the product, so the insert blends very well with the Long sleeve Button-up shirt, blouse or T-shirt and is hardly noticeable.

The expansion mainly affects the stomach, waist and hem. The chest area changes only slightly. If the garment is already clearly too tight around the chest, choosing a larger size is usually the better solution.

Check the fit and consider cotton shrinkage

The correct size and width can be checked especially well with the GERMENS try-on service. Cotton may shrink slightly after the first washes. With GERMENS cotton fabrics, this normal shrinkage can be around 2 to 3 %.

The waist expansion can also be carried out later, even after several months or years. If the body changes over time, a favourite shirt or blouse can often still be worn.
