Noticeable expansion around stomach, waist and hem

The 3 cm waist expansion per side is a clearly noticeable alteration for blouses, Long sleeve Button-up shirts and T-shirts. It is suitable when the garment fits correctly at the shoulders, chest and length, but is clearly too tight in the lower area.

Because the expansion is made on each side, 3 cm on the right and 3 cm on the left create approximately 6 cm more total circumference. This alteration can be especially useful for shirts for men with a fuller stomach, for women’s blouses or for T-shirts when more comfort is needed around the stomach.

How is the expansion inserted?

The side seam is opened by hand. A matching fabric strip is then inserted on both sides. This strip runs from the hem up towards the underarm area and matches the design of the product. As a result, the insert blends in very well visually.

The strongest effect is created around the hem, stomach and waist. The chest area changes much less. If there is already tension around the chest or if the button placket pulls in the upper area, choosing a larger size is usually the better option.

Assess the fit realistically

A 3 cm expansion per side should be selected carefully. The garment should become more comfortable, but should still fit well and not look too wide. The GERMENS try-on service helps you assess the right basic size and the suitable expansion.

With cotton, it should always be considered that the material may shrink slightly after the first washes. A shrinkage of around 2 to 3 % is normal for GERMENS cotton fabrics. For this reason, the alteration can also be ordered later through the GERMENS alteration service.

The waist expansion is also possible after months or years. If the body shape changes, a good GERMENS garment does not have to be replaced immediately. A favourite Long sleeve Button-up shirt, blouse or frequently worn T-shirt can be sent to GERMENS and individually expanded.
