Kai Ebel is one of the most colourful personalities in German sports reporting. As a reporter and presenter, he has characterised RTL's Formula 1 broadcasts for over three decades. With his unmistakable style, his expertise and his closeness to the drivers, he has earned himself a permanent place in the world of motorsport. His trademark: colourful shirts, often from GERMENS, which underline his unique ‘Kai Ebel style’.

Career start

Born on 30 August 1964 in Mönchengladbach, Kai Ebel completed his military service after leaving school and then studied at the German Sport University Cologne, where he graduated as a sports teacher. He began his journalistic career at RTL in 1988. He has been an integral part of the channel's Formula 1 coverage since 1992 and has reported live from the world's racetracks over 500 times.

The influence of Kai Ebel on RTL Formula 1 broadcasts

Kai Ebel revolutionised Formula 1 reporting on RTL. He introduced live interviews directly from the pit lane and established the so-called ‘media pen’, in which drivers and team members answer questions from the media.
