Subtle shortening for better proportions

The 2 cm hem shortening is a very subtle alteration for Long sleeve Button-up shirts, blouses and T-shirts. It is suitable when the garment generally fits well, but looks slightly too long. Especially for people with a shorter body height, even a small shortening can help the upper body and legs appear more balanced.

With this alteration, the hem is not shortened only at the back, but evenly at the front and back. The existing hem is cut off and then sewn again cleanly. This keeps the shape of the garment balanced.

When is 2 cm useful?

A 2 cm shortening is useful when the Long sleeve Button-up shirt, blouse or T-shirt appears only slightly too long. For shirts, a good guideline is that the hem should sit roughly at the height of the middle of the back pocket of a pair of trousers. This is not a strict rule, but it is a helpful reference for a balanced length.

The best approach is to pin the garment evenly all around. Afterwards, look at it in the mirror from a little distance to judge whether the proportions between upper body and legs look harmonious.

Check first with the try-on service
