Side slit 10 cm for women’s blouses

More ease around the hips and hem

The 10 cm side slit is a clearly noticeable, yet still discreet alteration for women’s blouses. It is recommended when the blouse fits well at the shoulders, chest and waist, but needs more freedom of movement in the lower area. Especially with a naturally feminine hip shape, a 10 cm side slit can make the blouse fall more comfortably.

This alteration helps the blouse feel looser around the hips and hem. When sitting, walking or moving, there is less tension. The blouse still remains elegant and keeps its original character.

How the 10 cm side slit is made

For the side slit, the side seam is opened upwards from the lower hem. With this option, the slit length is approximately 10 cm. The area is then carefully reworked: a small amount of fabric is removed, and both opened edges are finished with a clean new hem.

This creates a neat side slit with a slightly triangular shape. It opens the blouse in the lower area and creates more room without changing the fit at the chest or shoulders.

When is 10 cm useful?

A 10 cm side slit is useful when a small 5 cm slit would probably not provide enough freedom of movement. It has a stronger effect around the hips, but still remains visually discreet enough for the blouse to look refined and well balanced.

This alteration is especially suitable when the blouse fits very well at the top and only needs a little more ease at the bottom. For men’s shirts, side slits are usually not necessary. For women’s blouses, however, they can be a very practical adjustment.

Try on and check the slit height

The best way to assess the right side slit length is with fitting blouses through the GERMENS try-on service. First, the correct blouse size should be found. Once the size fits, it can be checked at the side whether a 10 cm slit is the right length.

It is helpful to mark the desired slit height at the side and assess the blouse while standing, sitting and walking. The view from a little distance is also important. This makes it easier to see whether the fall of the blouse remains harmonious.

Not a replacement for a larger size

A 10 cm side slit creates more freedom in the lower area, but it does not replace a larger size. If the women’s blouse is too tight overall or pulls at the chest, back, stomach or shoulders, a different size should be selected.
