Subtle adjustment for men’s button-up shirts and blouses

The 1 cm waist reduction is a very subtle alteration for GERMENS Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses. It is suitable when the garment generally fits well, but feels slightly too wide around the waist or hem. With a premium men’s button-up shirt, a Long sleeve Button-up shirt or a blouse, even a small adjustment can create a cleaner and closer silhouette.

GERMENS Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses have a regular, balanced cut. For slim men and women, a slight reduction can still be useful when the shoulders, chest and length fit well, but the middle of the garment has a little too much width. The chest area is hardly affected by this alteration.

How the waist reduction is carried out

For the waist reduction, the side seam is opened by hand. The alteration runs from the hem up towards the underarm area. A narrow amount of fabric is then removed on both sides, and the side seams are sewn back together cleanly. This mainly reduces the waist circumference and the hem width.

The alteration shapes the Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse slightly closer to the body without strongly changing its original form. A 1 cm reduction is ideal when only a small correction is needed and the garment should still fall naturally and comfortably.

Check the fit with the try-on service

The best way to determine the right alteration is with the GERMENS try-on service. The fitting shirt or blouse can be pinned carefully along the side seams. This can be done by yourself, by an alterations tailor or by someone with sewing experience.

The waist reduction can also be carried out later after the first washes. Cotton is a natural material and may relax slightly during washing. A shrinkage of around 2 to 3 % is normal for cotton. For this reason, it can be sensible to wear and wash the garment first before deciding on a very precise alteration.
