Clear narrowing for special men’s button-up shirts

The 4 cm waist reduction is a clear alteration for Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses when the garment fits well at the shoulders and chest, but has visibly too much width at the waist. Especially with special men’s button-up shirts, artist shirts, designer Long sleeve Button-up shirts or blouses, the fit should match the quality of the design.

This alteration is especially useful for slim men and women as well as athletic body shapes. If the shoulder area needs more room but the waist is narrower, a regular-cut garment can look too wide at the bottom. The waist reduction brings the side line closer to the body.

What happens during the alteration?

The side seam is opened on both sides. A new, slimmer line is then created from the hem up towards the underarm. A narrow strip of fabric is removed, and the side seams are sewn back together cleanly. This noticeably reduces the hem width and waist circumference.

The chest area changes only slightly because the alteration fades out softly towards the top. This is important so that the Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse remains comfortable and freedom of movement is preserved.

Have 4 cm checked carefully

A 4 cm reduction should be checked carefully in advance. The garment may sit closer to the body, but it should not feel restrictive. Especially when sitting and moving the arms, there must still be enough room.

Ideally, use the try-on service. The desired width can be marked with pins on the fitting shirt or blouse. If you are unsure, an alterations tailor is the best support because the side line can be pinned evenly.

Judge cotton fit after the first washes

With a cotton Long sleeve Button-up shirt or cotton blouse, it can be sensible to make the final waist reduction only after the first washes. Cotton may shrink or relax slightly during washing. A shrinkage of around 2 to 3 % is normal for GERMENS cotton fabrics. After that, the final fit can often be judged more accurately.
