Stronger alteration for a slimmer fit

The 5 cm waist reduction is the strongest version in this alteration range. It is suitable when a Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse fits well at the shoulders, chest and length, but is clearly too wide around the waist and hem. With extraordinary men’s button-up shirts, colourful Long sleeve Button-up shirts and blouses, this alteration can noticeably improve the overall appearance.

This alteration is especially interesting for slim men and women as well as athletic body shapes with broader shoulders and a narrower waist. The garment is shaped closer to the body, while the chest area is reduced only slightly.

How strong is a 5 cm waist reduction?

A 5 cm reduction is a clear change to the fit. It should be selected when there is noticeably too much width. The Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse should look slimmer afterwards, but it must not become too tight. The button placket should lie flat and should not pull when sitting.

Technically, the side seam is opened on both sides from the hem up towards the underarm. Fabric is then removed at the sides, and the seam is rebuilt cleanly. This reduces the waist and hem circumference, while shoulders, collar, sleeves and cuffs remain unchanged.

Try on and pin before ordering

If you are unsure, have the width pinned by an alterations tailor or someone with sewing experience. A slightly more cautious reduction is often better than making the garment too narrow, because freedom of movement and wearing comfort should remain intact.

Cotton, shrinkage and later alteration

The waist reduction can be ordered immediately, but it can also be carried out later. This is especially useful if you want to wash the Long sleeve Button-up shirt or blouse a few times first. Cotton may shrink slightly after the first washes. With GERMENS, normal shrinkage is approximately 2 to 3 %. After that, the final fit can be judged more accurately.
