The sleeve shortening by 2 cm is useful when a men’s long sleeve shirt, a special button-up shirt or a blouse fits well around the body, but the cuffs fall slightly too far over the hand. Especially with high-quality GERMENS shirts, the right sleeve length is important because it influences the overall appearance of the garment.

Different body proportions are completely normal. Some people need the width of a certain size but have shorter arms. A pronounced or narrower shoulder can also make the sleeve appear longer or shorter.

When are 2 cm the right choice?

A shortening by 2 cm is recommended when the cuff sits visibly too low with the arm hanging naturally, but does not fall extremely far over the back of the hand. The aim is a natural length where the cuff sits neatly and does not interfere with movement.

If in doubt, a sleeve may be slightly too long rather than too short. Sleeves that are too short can quickly look tight and may feel uncomfortable when you move.

Skilled alteration on the finished garment

We alter the sleeves directly on the finished shirt or blouse. The cuff is detached, the excess fabric is removed from the sleeve, and the cuff is sewn back on professionally. This work takes around 45 minutes per shirt because both sleeves must be adjusted evenly and cleanly.

Before shortening, it can be worth folding the cuff back once and closing it again. With colourful men’s shirts or patterned GERMENS shirts, this can create an interesting accent that may already achieve the desired effect.
